Question: Can I get my security deposit refund from the landlord?

 

Context: Business problem.

 

K was not happy with her hotel. She wanted to break the contract and get her deposit back. The landlady was not helpful at all. There were various problems with service and quality of the room. She had no received a written contract or receipt.

 

Outcome: K had tried getting angry before the prediction was made. After that she tried to negotiate at least some money back. Lastly, she tried calling the Tourist Police. The cop came and was sympathetic but did nothing.

 

 

My prediction:

I saw that there was indeed a problem or block. Going at it head-on is not going to overcome this. I recommended trying alternative strategies. I though there might be a chance, but as tried pretty hard it would seem this line is a dead end and nothing will repair a situation that is damaged.

 

Summary:

There was no danger to K in trying to get her money back.

She wasted some time and energy to no avail

I thought the traditional text was too negative here. There might be a way around the difficulty. The judgment warns against people who are greedy. This seemed to be a reference to the landlady. The text of the line is exaggerated: "Don't act like this for ten years" and "Perseverance brings misfortune", implying a real danger. I was pretty sure there was no danger. I know hexagram 27 quite well and it is neither powerful, nor dangerous. A mild hexagram.

Here is a sample story of an I Ching prediction outcome. We need to collect many more of these to demonstrate how useful the I Ching can be. Like to volunteer? It only takes a few minutes on video call.

Question: How will my trip to Prague to visit my girlfriend go?

 Context: A journey on a romantic quest

Outcome:

I went to Prague to visit my girlfriend, Theresa. I was considering making this romance a more permanent one. This trip was a serious test to see if it would work. Traveling was easy and Prague lived up to its reputation as a beautiful and ancient city. The weather was good too. I am a bit of a traveler and so is she.

We had spent some time together in Cambodia. I wanted to see if the relationship could become something more solid. I also wanted to see Prague. Traveling was no problem. Everything went well. However, the relationship was strained. While we were in Cambodia, she was much more relaxed. But in Prague, she seemed tense and easily upset. Sometimes we were happy together and sometimes we were miles apart. 

We never had a real fight. We never officially broke up. I was thinking about whether I wanted to continue with her. A couple of weeks later though, I heard from a mutual friend that she did not want to see me ever again!

 

Analysis:

- The trip was safe and there were no travel problems.

- The destination was interesting and exciting.

- Relationship was strained and unstable

- The purpose of the trip was not successful.

 

 My prediction:

The trip will be safe, but it will be an emotional roller coaster. It will be interesting and exciting, but there will be no significant accomplishments. You should do your best to keep your balance in unstable conditions.

My prediction was quite accurate, but it was a little bit too optimistic. I was not sure what would happen with the relationship. I thought it best not to say too much. In the end, the trip was a clarification of the situation, and that may have been just what he had been in need of. Provided there is no great danger it is usually better to proceed.

Six at the top means: (the advice)

        One must go through the water.

        It goes over one's head.

        Misfortune. No blame.

The water rises over one's head. This is the

misfortune. But one incurs no blame in giving up one's life that the good

and the right may prevail. There are things that are more important than

life.

Here we see the problem with the traditional text clearly. Most prediction bear at least some resemblance to what actually occurs; this one does not. As other lines in the hexagram are really unfavorable this makes it very hard to spot. 

 I was sure it was not that bad, but I had no clear record of this line, so I just recommended some caution. I am glad to have this story. Lines that are good but marked as not good are the hardest to find. One more piece of the puzzle has been complete

Traveling to Chiang Mai was easy and after a week enjoying the sights I went to the organic farm. Working was hard sometimes but I enjoyed being involved. The people were great to hang out with and it was useful to learn from. After about a month I went back to CM to hang out.

Be careful not to decrease yourself too much 

 

The line text is hard to interpret. "To undertake something brings misfortune." probably refers to trying to make a material profit which is a dead end."Without decreasing oneself.  One is able to bring increase to others." This seemed to me to be the appropriate context.

Hi Justin!  Oh yes more easy.

It went great! It was lovely, I stayed for a month. The job was great and all the people was very special and lovely. I spended my birthday in there and they bought me a cake and took me for breaky and made my day very special even when I don't like birthdays. Just left on the 4th actually.

It was a very special time that a 100% I will remember forever. Made a lot of friends and even plans for the future to visit each other in other parts of the world.
