Question: Can I get my security deposit refund from the landlord?

 

Context: Business problem.

 

K was not happy with her hotel. She wanted to break the contract and get her deposit back. The landlady was not helpful at all. There were various problems with service and quality of the room. She had no received a written contract or receipt.

 

Outcome: K had tried getting angry before the prediction was made. After that she tried to negotiate at least some money back. Lastly, she tried calling the Tourist Police. The cop came and was sympathetic but did nothing.

 

 

My prediction:

I saw that there was indeed a problem or block. Going at it head-on is not going to overcome this. I recommended trying alternative strategies. I though there might be a chance, but as tried pretty hard it would seem this line is a dead end and nothing will repair a situation that is damaged.

 

Summary:

There was no danger to K in trying to get her money back.

She wasted some time and energy to no avail

The judgment:

 

 Perseverance brings happiness. Pay attention to the provision of food. And what a man seeks To fill his own mouth.

 

Line 3:

Turning away from food. Perseverance brings misfortune. Do not act like this for ten years. Nothing will help."

 

I thought the traditional text was too negative here. There might be a way around the difficulty. The judgment warns against people who are greedy. This seemed to be a reference to the landlady. The text of the line is exaggerated: "Don't act like this for ten years" and "Perseverance brings misfortune", implying a real danger. I was pretty sure there was no danger. I know hexagram 27 quite well and it is neither powerful, nor dangerous. A mild hexagram.

The I Ching can be used successfully for health problems. I had a toothache in my lower rear molar. I have been having problems with gum infections for years, so I thought this might be the cause. The dentist, however, found a cavity and duly filled it. I thought that was the end of the matter, but no, the pain returned. The dentist now said it was a gum infection. I tried antibiotics, which only worked while I took them. I cleaned, flossed, and used mouthwash after each meal, but to no avail. Then I had an idea. I had noticed the dentist used saline to clean the teeth, so I thought I would try. I made a batch up and flushed my mouth with it several times a day. This made a noticeable improvement, but it was still not quite good enough. Then I added a little hydrogen peroxide to the solution. This worked very well, and I have had no trouble since.

 Six in the third place means:
        One is enriched through unfortunate events.
        No blame, if you are sincere
        And walk in the middle,
        And report with a seal to the prince.

A time of blessing and enrichment has such powerful effects that even events 
ordinarily unfortunate must turn out to the advantage of those affected by 
them. These persons become free of error, and by acting in harmony with 
truth they gain such inner authority that they exert influence as if sanctioned 
by the letter and seal.

This was not the first time I had this oracle, and so I knew it was worse than it sounds. The first time I had it, things did not work out well at all. HEX 42 LINE 3: BAD BUSINESS

This time, because I had a better idea of what to expect, it worked out pretty much in line with the traditional text. This was a complex situation that needed to be unraveled carefully to get the truth. I had to find the true cause to find the correct solution, and this took several stages. In the end, I found the way. The first time I failed, I did not recognize the problem fully and take steps to deal with it early on before it became serious.

DOES THE I CHING GIVE YES-OR-NO ANSWERS?

The I Ching cannot give yes-or-no answers. The reason is simple: How much effort and risk you are prepared to take depends on what you hope to achieve. This is something you have to decide for yourself. In addition, you often have little or no choice but to proceed, whether the oracle is good or otherwise. 

The I Ching does not give orders; it merely advises, and the yes-or-no is up to you! If you have to move with an unfavorable oracle, you must simply be more careful and perhaps change your strategy. 

I will give you an example: "Moving to Cambodia".

The oracle for this move was not so good, but it was the best choice available, and with a lot of effort, it worked out well.

I was running a small guest house in Thailand. It was not easy to find staff at that time, so I used my housekeeper to help me run the place. She did not have a great reputation for honesty, but I had no personal problem with her on that score. You never know with these kinds of stories because people might have been jealous, she had a good job and tried to make trouble for her. I consulted the I Ching and received hex 42. INCREASE, line 3. 

Line 3 means: One is enriched through unfortunate events.

No blame, if you are sincere

And walk in the middle,

And report with a seal to the prince.

A time of blessing and enrichment has such powerful effects that even events ordinarily unfortunate must turn out to the advantage of those affected by them. These persons become free of error, and by acting in harmony with truth they gain such inner authority that they exert influence as if sanctioned by the letter and seal.

Back then, I had no experience with this line and took the advice to mean that there was something irregular about the situation but that all would be well.

Things were OK until I got sick and was in the hospital for some time. I had no choice but to leave my housekeeper in charge as there were guests in residence. When I got out though, I found she had left the day before. The rents, money for food, and the float were all gone as well! 

Since then, I have had more examples of this line and now I am quite sure it is no good at all.

Other lines in Hex 42

Line 1: Best line! A powerful harbinger of good fortune that comes three times almost by itself. 

Line 2. Good, but more effort on your part is required than in line 1.

Line 3: Avoid bad people.

Line 4: Continuing with projects brings success.

Line 5. Positive and lucky

Line 6: Not enough experience to be certain.

 Note: this story was really much longer with twists and turns. I edited down as it was a bit boring and so as not to confuse the reader.

(ATLANTIS), THOUGHTS ON THE MOTHER CIVILIZATION - THREAD FOR CONVERSATION

I am not an expert on ancient civilizations, some things make me wonder that is all. 

There is much lively debate as to whether Atlantis really existed and where it might have been situated. What is less discussed is what the mother civilization might have been like to live in—how did it rise and fall?

There must have been a first city-state that set the foundation and blueprint for all that was to come. History appears to show that civilizations rise and fall at an ever-accelerating pace. So the first city could have been active for thousands of years. As it has completely disappeared, it must have collapsed a long time ago.

What did the city look like? Could it have had the same design as the ancient cities we know of? Some kind of pyramid in the center of town. A city wall enclosing houses and shops in a grid pattern?

 

Did she become a brutal colonial power? Corrupt and decadent at home, cruel and brutal abroad. Is that how she fell? That, with some variation, is how just about every civilization has fallen since.
