BAD JOB - HEXAGRAM, GRACE 22 LINE 1
I Ching prediction
I was hanging out in Ko Samui Thailand with no much to do. I got talking to a German guy who told me he worked on an English-language newsletter. Hearing I was a writer, he asked if I would like to write for them, as they had no native speaker for this task. The job offered no pay, but there was a free place to stay and some food thrown in. In addition, there was 'police pass' which was suppose to let get away with various misdemeanors and into some 'special events'. I went along to see.
I saw the kind of little stories I needed to write up for them. Tittle tattle and crude gossip mainly but, easy enough. The accommodation was awful, and there was no way I would stay there. Still, I turned up for work the first day, as I had nothing better to do. I had a cold, and when the boss, another German, said good morning, I answered rather feebly. He instantly sprang into a rage. "You are destroying harmony!" he thundered, banged his fist on the table, and stormed out.
The first guy told me not to worry; he would calm down later. I was not reassured and decided to leave. I made some excuses and left, never to return.
Line 1 means:
He lends grace to his toes, leaves the carriage, and walks.
A beginner in subordinate place must take upon himself the labor of
advancing. There might be an opportunity of surreptitiously easing the way-
symbolized by the carriage-but a self-contained man scorns help gained in a
dubious fashion. He thinks it more graceful to go on foot than to drive in a
carriage under false pretenses.
This is very accurate. All the lines in this hexagram advise you to look for things with sound foundations and avoid the superficial. The foundation of this job was completely rotten, and all that was on offer was worthless.
